Refine House of Oak Book 4 edition by Nichole Van Romance eBooks
When this fourth book of the House Of Oak series was first mentioned that the romantic couple would be LORD LINWOOD and JASMINE, I had my serious doubts about how Nichole could pull this off - especially after reading and loving the first three books INTERTWINE, DEVINE, and CLANDESTINE and Lord Linwood was not a likeable character (and at times a very detestable character) in the first three books. My opinion of Nichole Van as a very highly gifted TOP WRITER jumped up several notches when she was able to made me understand LORD LINWOOD, care for Lord Linwood, like Linwood, and EVEN ROOT FOR TIMOTHY!!! I had my doubts about JASMINE as a character also. The character as I understood her from the first three books (although Nichole avoided fleshing out her character until this last book) was too hippy dippy, flighty, and just plain too OUT THERE for any chance of her and LORD LINWOOD being able to even STAND EACH OTHER ... much less have a romance develop!! I figure they would KILL EACH OTHER LONG BEFORE there as any chance of even a kiss!!! But Nichole proved me wrong time again with her gifted storytelling leading me to understand the characters to the point where the two soon became one of the great romantic pairings OF ALL TIME!!! I loved the various scenes Nichole wrote to bring out the real person in both characters. There were several surprises that were very welcomed. I loved Jasmine's unexpected time travel location towards the end and Timothy's unexpected time travel to find her!!! WONDERFUL STORY, NICHOLE. Each time I re-read each of these four books, I think THIS ONE is my FAVORITE!! But after four readings of each book, I have to choose this last book as my FAVORITE!! Nichole, THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU for hours and days of reading and re-reading pleasure. I rarely re-read books currently, but these four books will continue to be re-read IN ORDER!!! That's the highest compliment I can give ANY AUTHOR!!!

Refine House of Oak Book 4 edition by Nichole Van Romance eBooks Reviews
Refine should come with a warning, "This Book Can Be All Consuming". I could not put it down. By Chapter 3, my children began to complain that I was neglecting my motherly duties (I see nothing wrong with the kids fixing dinner every now and again). By Chapter 7, it was time for bed. I put the book down, but I couldn't sleep...I needed just one more Chapter. Thankfully the book ended a couple of hours before I had to get up for work. Nichole Van has a wonderful sense of voice. As she changes point-of-view from one character to another, that voice shines through -- as do the quirks, faults, and humanity of her characters. I love the entire House of Oak series. This final book completes the circle, and brings home to the reader that everyone has a story, everyone has a point of view, and we are all just a little too quick to judge.
"You know my name. Not my story." -- Jasmine's PostIt
Another awesome book by Nichole Van. I am LOVING her books. This is book 4 in the House of Oak series (which I adore). It features Timothy Linwood (who seemed irredeemable in book 1) and Jasmine Fleury, the flighty, awesome friend of everyone else in the future. Timothy is a pompous, stuffy lord from 1815. Jasmine is a flower child, mystic-loving girl from 2015. Your typical couple. Ha ha. When Timothy is faced with losing his estate and everything he holds dear because of an embezzling land agent, he grasps at anything—even the idea of marrying a wealthy heiress he can’t stand—to save his heritage and those who depend on him. But when he goes to Deur Cottage and ends up in 2015 facing Jasmine and her messy house, he is in for an even ruder awakening. All his stringent rules (all 313 of them) clash badly in the twenty-first century.
This is a lovely frienemies love story, where opposites attract and hate each other at first, but come to get to know each other and have to change up their first impressions and judgments. It wasn’t as funny as Clandestine, but each of these books are solid EXCELLENT. Foundation of FAVORITE poured into each word. I always love Van’s books because they have so many delicious quotes and funny dialogue. The settings always capture me too. And the characters. They’re unbelievably real and you will want to be their best friends. In a word…they are awesome-tastic!
The other 3 books were kind of ho-hum to me (as evidenced in my other reviews). But interesting enough to keep me engaged and wanting to finish...and read the next one. BUT THIS, the final book, was the show-stopper.
I wondered how the author would make arrogant, unlikeable Linwood likeable...and bravo! She did it in the first few pages. I was hooked.
This book had all the elements I want in a great romance. And most important of all likeable, relatable characters. (Something I struggled with in the first 3 books.) It also had the chemistry between the 2. Their love was palpable...as was the angst and reason they couldn't be together.
Jasmine's history ends up being satisfactorily resolved (although I would have liked her to be able to get public recognition for it) and I can only say for the first time, I wish there was a book 5 only so I could peek into the lives of these 2 since the epilogue.
I would have to say that this book makes reading all the others worthwhile. (Although it could possibly be read as a stand-alone, it's much richer to read it in the order published.)
I read the first in this series (Intertwine) and enjoyed it. I was interested in Timothy's story so I skipped the next 2 books and read this one. I almost stopped reading 5 times because I couldn't stand Jasmine. Her character was not what I would have expected based on how she was written in the first book. I was frustrated in how rude and self centered she was when this man shows up in her house. She knew where he was from; she had experienced the time portal with her friend. She knew that he was completely disoriented but yet she acted like she was going to just let him flounder around on his own. She gave him no help until the middle of the book. I understood him and why he acted the way he did. His character was very well written. He was very much a victim of his times and family. I am glad that I stuck with the book because it got better and I liked the ending.
